Mum's education was limited because during the war she could only go to school half a day a week in a neighbour’s house, but she was good with numbers and started work at 14. She was soon manageress of a shop. She stayed living with her mum, my Nan, taking care of her when she broke her hip, walking home from work and back in her lunch hours to care for her.
